This errata doesn't change anything about how it works, it just makes sure that people who skimmed the first paragraph understand what's going on. Objects are not creatures, so spells that can target objects have never qualified for this metamagic. Twinned spell starts with this sentence, which has never been touched with errata: "When you cast a spell that can only target one creature." That means that if the spell can target anything other than one creature it doesn't qualify. They're just explaining what the RAW is, because people often ignore, overlook, or misinterpret RAW (sometimes intentionally, but usually by accident).
